It allows to sort the assets by upload date, alphabetical order or date of update. Click on the drop-down button and select an option in the list to automatically display the sorted assets.

The **Sort** button in the toolbar opens a dropdown with 3 mutually exclusive option groups. Exactly 1 option per group is active at a time, indicated by a checkmark. Clicking the active option resets it to that group's default. The dropdown stays open while you pick options.

The **Folders** group only appears in the table view. In the grid view, folders always display in a full-width band at the top and this group is hidden.

The active sort is encoded in the URL (`?sort=<rule>` and `?folders=mixed`). This makes sort state shareable and preserved on page refresh and browser navigation. Changing the sort resets infinite scroll and clears the current bulk selection.

When **Mixed with files** is active (table view), folders are interleaved with assets according to the active sort order. For size-based rules, folders sort as size 0. Folders that may still be preceded by not-yet-loaded assets remain deferred until their page loads.

The future Media Library also includes these interface changes:

- The view toggle between list and grid uses a redesigned appearance: a grey track with a white active segment.
- Asset selection is checkbox-only. Clicking an asset row or card opens the asset details panel. To select assets for bulk actions, use the checkbox on the asset.
