Steps to reproduce
- Deny internet access to app like msedgewebview2.exe, graphics driver software (atiesrxx.exe), laptop management software (hp.omen.omencommandcenter.exe)
- App updates
- The update installs in a folder named after the new program version and now has a different path
- The program keeps bombarding the user with requests for permission to access the Internet
Expected behavior
An app that we’ve denied internet access to once doesn’t ask for it again after every automatic update (sometimes every few days). I’m not sure how to solve this problem or how to implement a solution, nor am I sure if it’s feasible to achieve this in a reasonable way. A filter based on the executable file name? Regular expressions for the path to the .exe file? Using other program metadata?
Actual behavior
Every time certain programs are updated (I’m not sure if this is solely due to my theory about the path), it triggers a flood of the same access requests. Notification windows pop to the front, steal the app’s focus, and drive me crazy (no, toning down the notifications isn’t a solution, because that would impair my ability to respond to actual access requests).
Finally, almost the entire list of blocked programs consists of a few entries that keep repeating endlessly. However, these are not programs I can do without. They are either system components or software needed for the hardware to function.
