Silly question, but do you have to use KOReader to read books for this KOInsight plugin to sync reading data? I prefer the native Kobo reader, but really like the idea of this tool.

Also, does it keep data for books read but are deleted/removed from the Kobo device?

Yes, this is built specifically for KOReader, and it's intended to be used with the KOReader database. There's no plans for a generic or kobo-specific API for now. I'm not familiar with Kobo, so I'm not even sure if this is viable.
